Welcome to Square Peg Literacy
Passionate, Purposeful, Prescriptive
Miss Jeaneen
"When we can't fit a square peg into a round hole, we'll usually blame the peg - when sometimes it's the rigidity of our thinking that accounts for our failure to accommodate it." - Nate Silver
Square Peg? Does reading feel like an impossible task? You are not alone! Learn to read and write fluently with individualized, scientifically proven OG lessons! Embrace the square peg and let’s make some square holes!
I am a Canadian Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner offering personalized lessons to dyslexic students in the Edmonton area. I’ve been teaching students of all ages and levels since 1996. Teaching is my passion and I am committed to helping children reach their full potential.
Square Peg Literacy offers OG tutoring to children ages 6-12. Using an explicit, systematic approach in an individualized setting, Square Peg helps students to increase their literacy skills while building confidence and self esteem.
Orton Gillingham Tutoring
Getting emails and phone calls requesting support is a weekly and sometimes daily occurrence at Square Peg Literacy. While Miss Jeaneen is currently full in her tutoring practice, she is able to offer support for families attempting to navigate the school system and get help for their children. A phone call or google meet appointment can be arranged. Talking about children, literacy, dyslexia, how to teach reading, and the science of reading are passionate topics and she is excited to now offer guidance and information to families as a consultant. Contact information can be found below.

Step 1: Diagnostic Assessment
This assessment will give information to help individualize instruction. During this primary assessment, careful attention is paid to the social emotional impact of literacy struggles and how the brain works. It is important for students and families to understand the Orton Gillingham method and why THIS TIME WILL BE DIFFERENT!
Step 2: OG Therapy Plan/Meeting
Recommended* – 3 x 55 minute sessions per week
There are in person and virtual options available.
* Students must commit to at least 2 sessions a week to experience progress.
